Caring oil for sensitive skin

Our skin is regularly exposed to many different kinds of stress. Thanks to its special structure it is elastic and stretchable, and can usually withstand mechanical strain. But under certain circumstances even our skin reaches its limits. If it is stretched too far – for example, during pregnancy or during periods of rapid weight gain or growth such as puberty – stretch marks (striae distensae) can form.

Eucerin Caring Oil has been developed specifically for the needs of dry, sensitive skin prone to stretch marks and is ideal for use during pregnancy and after. It contains pure and natural Vitamin E and high-quality, pure vegetable oils – Sunflower, Jojoba and Almond Oil – that are rich in Linoleic Acid, an unsaturated fatty acid that strengthens the skin’s natural barrier function.

The oil massages in easily and is quickly absorbed. Applying with regular massage will stimulate blood circulation, enhancing skin’s elasticity and significantly reducing the appearance of stretch marks. Skin is smooth, feels silky soft and is pleasantly fragranced.

Eucerin’s Caring Oil for sensitive skin is suitable for use during pregnancy and after and can be used on babies and children.

Clinical and dermatological studies

Clinical and dermatological studies prove very good efficacy and skin tolerability for dry, sensitive skin.

Main Findings

30 females (between 18 and 35) took part in an efficacy and tolerability study1. All of them had given birth between 6 and 12 months before the start of the study and suffered from stretch marks. They applied the product twice daily to a defined area of the belly with 10 minutes of massaging and the study lasted for 6 months. The results were clinically evaluated and revealed the following:

  • A significant decrease in scaling in the treated area
  • A significant decrease in the scar area
  • Excellent skin compatibility

The research concluded that Eucerin Caring Oil could be recommended as an effective and well tolerated product for the daily care of sensitive skin with stretch marks.

How To Use

Instructions

  • Apply the oil twice daily to the appropriate areas. Gently massage in circular motions until completely absorbed.
  • Dermatologists and midwives recommend the proven pinch massage2:
    • for the belly: take folds of skin between your thumbs and forefingers, lift them up and pinch them between your fingers. Then quickly release them.
    • for the breasts: Start with small circular motions along the outside edge of your breast and continue inward in a spiral pattern to the centre, leaving out the nipple. Move the skin and stretch the underlying tissue to promote circulation. For best results, massage your skin twice daily for 5 to 10 minutes each time.

2 N.B.. If you are prone to premature contractions please consult your gynecologist/midwife for general advice before massaging your breasts or belly. If your belly hardens or you feel contractions while you massage, stop massaging and inform your gynecologist or midwife.

Ingredients

The combination of Sunflower, Jojoba and Almond Oil is rich in Linoleic Acid, an essential unsaturated fatty acid (i.e. one that cannot be produced by the human body). Unlike the commonly used Oleic Acid, Linoleic Acid strengthens skin’s barrier functions, helping to reducing water loss, and protecting against irritants. Additionally, pure Vitamin E acts as a natural radical scavenger, neutralizing harmful free radicals.

FAQ (3)

Are some parts of the body more prone to stretch marks than others?

Yes. Stretch marks mainly appear on the abdomen and breasts, but thighs and hips can also be affected.

    Can anyone get stretch marks?

Yes. But because everyone’s skin reacts differently, not everyone subjected to the same kind of strain will develop stretch marks. Stretch marks are common during pregnancy but can also be caused by rapid weight gain or growth spurts like those that occur during puberty. Our genetics play a large part in determining whether or not we are affected by stretch marks but, in general, people who are overweight tend to be more affected than those who are slender.

How can you tell if a product is safe for sensitive skin?

Eucerin Sensitive Skin products have been specially developed to combine excellent skin protection and regeneration with clinically proven skin tolerability. However, in general, if you’re trying out a new product, apply it repeatedly to skin at the flexure of the elbow. If it does not lead to redness, swelling or itching the product can be assumed to be compatible with your skin.

Talk to your dermatologist or pharmacist if you’re worried about any of your symptoms.
