Frequently Asked Questions

Will Eucerin AtoControl Bath and Shower Oil make my skin feel greasy?

No. Atopic skin is extremely dry so it will help replenish your skin but will not leave it feeling oily or greasy.

Is Eucerin AtoControl Bath and Shower Oil suitable for babies?

Yes, it is fine for babies of three months or older but use as a bath additive rather than applying directly to their skin.

What do you mean by a ‘flare-up’ and `the period between flare-ups’?

Broadly speaking, Atopic Dermatitis has two different phases. A ‘flare-up’ is one of the names used to describe the acute, active phase when skin is at its most irritable. It can feel intensely itchy, you may experience a burning sensation and skin can look dry, red and flaky. Between these acute, flare-up phases are periods of time when your skin is relatively calm and less irritated. This period is also known as the non-acute, non-active or interval phase. The length of each phase varies greatly depending on the individual, but products specially formulated to treat and care for atopic skin − such as those in the Eucerin AtoControl range − can help to extend the period between flare-ups and offer relief during acute flare-ups.

Is Atopic Dermatitis the same as Eczema?

Dermatitis and Eczema are the same thing: collective terms for inflammatory changes in the skin. As such, they include many different dermatological diseases. Atopic Eczema and Atopic Dermatitis are also the same thing.

Eucerin AtoControl Dermo-cosmetic skin care for dry and irritable skin

Eucerin AtoControl is a range of dermo cosmetic products that care for for dry and irritated skin during inactive phases and flare-ups. Each  product has been clinically and dermatologically tested and proven to reduce dryness, scaling and tension.

The Basic Care lotions and creams contain a combination of Omega-6-fatty acids and Licochalcone A to replenish skin, restoring its natural barrier and making it more resilient. As well as hydrating skin intensively, these products reduce the roughness, itch and tightness associated with atopic skin.

The Active Care range includes Eucerin's new AtoControl Acute Care Cream. Its skin caring properties significantly improve the skin's appearance during flare-up phases and help reduce the use of hydrocortisone during flare-ups. A clinical study shows a comparable cosmetic effect of the skin caring properties of Eucerin AtoControl Acute Care Cream to the effects of a 1 % hydrocortisone cream on the complexion of atopic skin. AtoControl Acute Care Cream is not a pharmaceutical product and is not meant to replace one.
