Atopic skin is irritable, dry and itchy. This itchiness induces scratching which gets in the way of a good night’s sleep and can have a negative impact on quality of life.
Eucerin AtoControl Balm is a daily-use body balm that has been specially formulated to soothe and intensely moisturise irritated and itchy skin. The light but nourishing oil-in-water balm is enriched with soothing Licochalcone A, Ceramides and Shea butter to strengthen skin’s barrier and relieve dryness and itching. It should also be used during a flare-up alongside Eucerin AtoControl Acute Care Creamand your usual medication.
The balm for Atopic Eczema and Atopic Dermatitis provides instant moisture to make skin soft and smooth and, with regular application, skin condition noticeably improves. Eucerin AtoControl Balm has been clinically and dermatologically proven to support sleep and improve quality of life for those with Atopic Dermatitis1.

Clinical and dermatological studies prove very good efficacy and skin tolerability
Main findings
Among other clinical and dermatological studies, a Product-in-use (PiU) study1 was conducted with 166 patients (men and women, aged 30+) with mild to moderate Atopic Dermatitis that causes sleep problems at least 1-2 days a week. They reported the following results after four weeks of regular use:

How they work together
The care products in the Eucerin AtoControl range contain a unique active ingredient complex:
- Licochalcone A: an extract of liquorice which soothes skin and reduces redness
- Ceramides: to strengthen skin’s barrier function
These ingredients work together to soothe skin during acute flare-ups as well as to deliver the daily, basic care that atopic skin needs to prolong the period between flare-ups.

What is the difference between Eucerin AtoControl Balm and Eucerin AtoControl Lotion ?
The balm and the lotion are both ideal for use on atopic skin all over the body. They are both effective at soothing skin and supporting its natural barrier function. The choice of which product to use comes down to textural preference: the balm is an oil-in-water formulation and is lighter; the water-in-oil lotion is richer. Some people choose to use the lotion during the winter and the balm during the summer.

What do you mean by a ‘flare-up’ and ‘the period between flare-ups’?
Broadly speaking, Atopic Dermatitis has two different phases. A ‘flare-up’ is one of the names used to describe the acute, active phase when skin is at its most irritable. It can feel intensely itchy, you may experience a burning sensation and skin can look red, dry and flaky. Between these acute, flare-up phases are periods of time when your skin is relatively calm and less irritated. This period is also known as the non-acute, non-active or interval phase. The length of each phase varies greatly depending on the individual, but products specially formulated to care for atopic skin − such as those in the Eucerin AtoControl range − can help to extend the period between flare-ups and offer relief during acute flare-ups.

Atopic Dermatitis and Atopic Eczema are collective terms for inflammatory changes to the skin and they include many different dermatological diseases. Atopic Dermatitis and Atopic Eczema are used to describe the same chronic inflammatory condition.
